Mabuhay!! Welcome to the official website of the Philippine Orchid Society. This is your gateway to everything and anything related to Philippine orchids. The Philippines is tropical country that has been blessed with some of the world's best orchid species. Many of these orchid species are world reknowned because they have been extensively used in the development of new and outstanding orchid hybrids we are enjoying today. One of them is the waling-waling or Vanda sanderiana which has been regarded as the "Queen of all Orchids." It is a species that is endemic only to the Philippines and is often used for breeding to produce large, round, flat and showy flowered vanda hybrids. It is a fact that more than 80% of the vanda hybrids we have today have Vanda sanderiana in their genes. Another significant Philippine orchid species is Phalaenopsis amabilis. This species has also been extensively used in breeding because it imparts to its offsprings long sprays of large full flowers. Renanthera storiei, commonly known as the "fire orchid," is another Philppine orchid species that is widely used in the development of orchid cutflower varieties. But apart from just having orchids that have contributed a lot to the development of orchid hybrids world wide, the Philippines has a wealth of orchids that are, in no doubt, unique and desirable to any orchid hobbyist. Now on our 57th year, the Philippine Orchid Society, Inc. continues to be in the forefront in the promotion and development of the Philippine Orchid Industry. We hope that with this website we can further grow and likewise unite with all the orchid lovers out there so that we can fully enjoy and benefit from the wonderful world of orchids. Happy Orchid Growing! Rex Victor P.
